The 1968 Dodge Charger was redesigned from the previous model year. Based on the Chrysler B platform, the 1968 Dodge charger received many cosmetic changes to the interior and exterior. Changes included a new front grill, hideaway lights, and recessed round tail lights. The base engine was a 318 230hp V8 with a three-speed floor shifter. Option engines included a 383 335hp, 440 375hp and the legendary 426 Hemi 425hp.
For the 1968 model year 17,665 Chargers were manufactured with the R/T package, and included special options like the Scat Pack, Bumblebee rear end stripes, the Magnum 440 and the 426 Hemi Engine options. The new design was a success and sales increased to 92,590 in 1968 compared to only 15,788 sold in 1967.
